INTERNET TRENDS AND NEWS
Dec 2009: Accessibility - W3C, the worldwide authority body for many web standards, has now published WCAG 2.O. This updated Accessibility Standard will succeed the existing standard WCAG 1.0 which has applied for many years.
The standards statement comprises four principles, underpinned by 9 guidelines, which are set out in some detail.
NCS have already announced that they are adopting the SortSite tool offered by Electrum Solutions as part of the NCS accessibility validation process. - SortSite provides evaluation of both WCAG 1.0 and WCAG 2.0.
NCS will announce shortly its enhanced Accessibility Service, spanning PC and mobile web access. Updates on web developments are provided by NCS regularly in its newsletter.
WEB DEVELOPMENTS AND NEWS FROM NCS
December 2009 - NCS regular newsletter, NetNews, issued. The main article offered Link Building tips and set out the practical experience of the NCS team in building its own Link volumes to above 2,000 inbounds via Articles, News Releases, Free Directories, etc
September 2009 - Free Directories: the attitude of the Search Engines towards paid directories has increased the importance of being entered in highly ranked free directories. Research by NCS over a two month period to review c2,000 directories, described as "Free", found that only approximately 5% were actually free.
Many concealed their fees, until the final stage of the submission process, eg a "submission fee". Others concealed, until late in the submission process, the fact that a reciprocal link would be needed before entry was allowed - NCS August 2009 review showed that approx 90% adopt this approach
NCS SERVICE DEVELOPMENTS
February 2010 - Local Search Focus - NCS has increased the Local Search focus in its Search Engine services. This includes Bing and Google Map submissions, and site tailoring to incorporate local contacts, location and services.
An Article is being published, explaining the increasing importance of getting better rankings in Local Search results.
February 2010 - Link Popularity Ranking - for the 42nd time this year, NCS has been ranked the in the top 10 of the UK's Best Link Popularity Services Company by TopSeo. com - the highly ranked independent authority on search vendors.
NCS provides an extensive range of link popularity services to its clients.
January 2010 - Article Publication: Email Marketing - NCS has published its first article on Email Marketing. This will be the first of three - the next two will deal with email marketing management, and email marketing legal and ethical issues
December 2009 -Web Promotion News - Online Press Releases and Article Marketing Services are part of the web promotion services offered by NCS.
Both services have been restructured recently - they are useful tools for increasing the site visibility and distributing content from sites.
November 2009 - Spam Threshold Announcement - NCS provides extensive email management support for its clients, including guidance to minimise your emails being rejected as spam. In our view an email campaign which generates more than 0.3% complaints should be regarded as Spam.
This is likely to cause reputational and operational issues for senders, and it may be necessary to suspend campaigns where we believe guidelines have not been observed.
November 2009 - NCS ForumLink Services - NCS has defined its Forum link building service, NCS ForumLink. It enables clients to locate high quality forums, register their profiles, and maintain a programme to steadily build their forum inputs, in order to increase their inbound link volumes.
As Directories increasingly become Paid, or reciprocal only, it is important for our clients to use non-directory link building opportunites, eg Online Press Releases, Article Marketing, and Forum/Blog submissions.
October 2009 - Link Building Services - the volume of NCS inbound links exceeded 2,050, reflecting use of full span of link building activities including Article Marketing, and Online News Releases and Forum contributions.
This sustained link building for our own site has helped us to regain the page one position in Google for the key term "Hertfordshire Web Designers"

August 2009 - Online News Releases - NCS issued its 5th online news release - approximately 75 additional links were generated. This step, allied to Article Marketing, made a significant contribution to the growth in our inbound link volumes - see above under Link Building Services.
